AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You build in a lab project an autonomous, intelligent, two-legged Robo-Dodo and learn the fundamentals of modelling, simulation and control of dynamic walking robots. In the end you can create simulation models, analyze contact and motion dynamics, and practically implement control approaches for dynamic walking.

What you will be able to do

  • Modelling of floating base kinematics and robot dynamics
  • Contact modelling (event-driven and time-step methods)
  • Understanding reduced-order models (templates) such as SLIP
  • Analysis of limit cycles and Poincaré methods for stability assessment
  • Application of optimal and contact-implicit optimal control methods
  • Teamwork, project management and laboratory practice

What the module consists of

  • Introductory classesConveying the theoretical foundations and live programming for direct application
  • Practical laboratory workInterdisciplinary teamwork to develop the components of the Robo-Dodo
  • Independent student workIndependent completion of tasks and project assignments

Teaching method

  • Introductory classesConveying theory and demonstrations
  • Live programming sessionsDirect application of the theory in concrete implementations
  • Team work (supervised and unsupervised laboratory work)Practical realization, collaboration and iterative project development
  • Independent student workDeepening and preparation for the project work
